Memorial Day Service

Memorial Day is a federal holiday for remembering the patriots who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. American Legion Post 65 will host a memorial service, opened to the public, on May 30th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Saluda Theater. The Saluda High School's Navy National Defense Cadet Corps (NNDCC) Color Guard will post the Colors.
Legionnaire Tena Buffington will present a slide program of Saluda County Veterans. Legionnaire Marvin Gootee, a Vietnam Veteran, recipient of 3 Purple Hearts and a member of Saluda Post 65 American Legion, will be the keynote speaker. Following the memorial service, everyone is invited to attend the wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans Monument next to the court house. The Saluda Historical Museum will be open from 10 to 4 displaying some of Gootee's and other Vietnam Veterans memorabilia. Please come and join in this Memorial Service as we remember those who gave all. Freedom is not free. "Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you; Jesus Christ and the American G.I. One died for your soul;  the other for your freedom."
